Cruinniú Na Nóg - a National Creativity Day for Children and Young People

Cruinniu na nOg2

As part of the new national day of creativity for children and young people which takes place on June 23rd 2018, an exciting line up of events has been organised across Kilkenny Library Service , in the Barnstorm Theatre and in the Design and Craft Council of Ireland in the Castle yard.

Puppet shows in Ferrybank Library, Wand Making in Castlecomer Library, lego workshops in Graiguenamanagh, insect hotel workshops in Thomastown, craft workshops from recycled materials in Urlingford, Loughboy and the City Library provide a flavour of the range of events that will be happening on June 23rd in the county.

As well as this Barnstorm Youth Theatre will also deliver specially tailored one hour theatre workshops focused on different age groups from 6 to 15 year olds in The Barn Theatre. Booking is essential as places are limited.

An exciting mini craft village will be developed in the Castle Yard providing opportunities to learn woodturning, felt making, screen-printing and pottery making.

This programme of events for young people will be free and activity-based, with plenty of opportunities for young people to get doing, making and creating.

"Kilkenny County Council will be supporting a whole range of activities and are delighted to support events that are creative in nature and fully inclusive, inspired by the culture that surrounds and connects us all" comments Director of Services, Mary Mulholland.

Cruinniú na nÓg aims to celebrate and encourage children and young people's participation in culture and creativity.

Building on the success of last year's Cruinniú na Cásca events, and a key initiative of the Creative Youth Plan to enable the creativity of every child and young person, each of the country's 31 Local Authorities will lead on creating a programme of local events to showcase and share opportunities for children and young people.

Cruinniú na nÓg is an initiative of the Creative Ireland Programme at the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht and is presented in partnership with RTÉ and the Local Authorities.
