Public Libraries as Digital Learning Centres

€149,500 will be invested across all library branches in Kilkenny to develop the capacity of its digital services and enhance Information Technology infrastructure in order to engage with all users and encourage new users to the service.

Kilkenny Library Service will be developing spaces which will provide users with opportunities to explore and use digital media and technology which will appeal to all age groups.

Some of services being planned for include gaming consoles, high spec computers with coding software, access to podcasting technology as well as access to tablets and laptops for training around the use of technology at basic and advanced levels.

Kilkenny Library Service are committed to ensuring that they deliver quality digital services that ensures equity and creates opportunities for learning and development for all ages within the community.

Funding will be invested in a range services in Kilkenny including:

  • IPads/tablets for users and for staff to assist users
  • Software to support design, gaming and coding
  • Podcasting equipment
  • Digital signage
  • 3 D Printers
  • The Minister for Rural and Community Development, Deputy Michael Ring T.D., approved an €8 million investment package which sees 309 library branches across the country investing in digital services and facilities.
