Press Release - Mortgage Payment Break Announced for Local Authority Homeowners

The Government last week announced a Mortgage Payment Break for people who have secured a mortgage from their local authority or the Rebuilding Ireland Scheme and are now experiencing financial distress arising out of the Covid-19 emergency.
Homeowners who hold mortgages with their local authority can take a three-month payment break and will not be charged interest during this period.

Following this announcement, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Cllr. Peter 'Chap' Cleere commented: "I welcome this announcement by the Government during this very difficult time when people are losing their jobs. I would urge any borrower facing difficulty to contact their local authority immediately and fill out the necessary forms in order to avail of the mortgage break."

To apply for this mortgage break a simplified application form must be completed by the borrower.

Full details of the scheme and the application form are available on Kilkenny County Council's website at www.kilkennycoco.ie and can also be obtained by contacting the Finance Department of Kilkenny Co. Council at 056-7794021 / 7794056.
