Kilkenny County Council carry out septic tank inspections throughout county Kilkenny.  
Inspections of Domestic Waste Water Treatment Systems (DWWTS), i.e. septic tanks and treatment plants, serving houses will be focused within the following two main zones where:

1. houses are situated within 100m of a watercourse and the water quality is affected by sewage effluent;
2. houses are served by their own well and groundwater is susceptible to pollution.

Inspections will also be carried out in areas outside of these zones.

Inspections will not be carried out on request.  

The homeowner will be notified in writing if their DWWTS is to be inspected, at least 10 days prior to inspection.
If the inspection fails, the inspector will explain the reason/s for failure on the day. An Advisory Notice will be sent to the homeowner specifying the required works to be carried out within a stated timeframe.

Inspectors
Kilkenny County Council inspectors are appointed and approved by the EPA. They carry identification and this should be shown to householders on request.
