Managed Print Service Usage for 2024

Since 2014 the Council’s printing needs have been covered by a Managed Print Service. While such a service has a number of organisational and cost benefits, it also brings with it many environmental benefits as a result of reduced energy and resource use. Users of the system receive monthly and annual reports of their usage. These contain consistent messaging on the steps that can be taken to reduce print volumes as much as possible.

The introduction of Managed Print Services in the Council has resulted in the following:

• Significant reduction in the number of print devices with a consequent overall reduction in energy usage
• Further reduction in energy usage due to the lower energy demands of the new devices. They also enter “deep sleep” mode when not in use which brings additional energy savings
• The reduced number of print devices has led to a corresponding reduction in the number of consumables used such as toner cartridges
• Regular engagement with staff in relation to their usage of the system. This is done via the provision of monthly and annual usage reports via email with the aim being to encourage a reduction in print volume
• Collection of all used toner cartridges by our Managed Print Service provider for recycling
