Allocating Firefighters to their Teams
Course Aim
The aim of the course is to enhance Kilkenny Fire Rescue Service ability to respond effectively to incidents where CABA skills are required.
Course Objective
Refresh Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus (CABA) skills and update CABA procedures.
The course consisted of three wears with intermittent core CABA lectures:
Lecture I, 'Care & Maintenance of CABA sets'
- Wear I, In the fire house 'Search Procedures' no heat, no smoke, no fire
Lecture II, 'Search Procedures'
- Wear II, In the fire house 'Hose Management' + 'BA control Procedures' with fire, heat and smoke
Lecture III, 'CABA entry control procedures', the role of the BA entry control officer (BAECO)
- Wear III, In the fire house 'Hose Management' + 'BA control Procedures' with fire, heat and smoke

The course director was ACFO John Collins, course instructors were ACFO Billy Hickey of Waterford County Fire Service; ACFO Alan O'Neill of Carlow Fire Rescue Service and fulltime firefighter Kieran Howley of Kilkenny Fire Rescue Service.
