Driver Pump Operator Course, August 2007

Course Aim:
The aim of the course is to assist fire fighters in developing and updating their ability and skills to drive Fire Engines and operate Pumps in a safe manner.

Course Objectives:
At the end of the course participants will

  1. Have improved their knowledge of the types of pumps in general use in Kilkenny fire and rescue service and the procedures for their efficient operation.
  2. Be aware of the practical and theoretical elements of the construction of the equipment.
  3. Be aware of common faults arising from the malfunction of the equipment and the appropriate methods of rectifying the faults particularly with regard to the limits of on-site "trouble-shooting".
  4. Have participated in a number of practical exercises and practised the skills involved in the operation of the equipment.
  • The content of the one week course is:
  • Theory of Pump Operation and Water Pressure Delivery - Appliance Based and Portable
  • Operational Procedures for Pumps - including Standard Tests
  • Use of Pumps and Related Equipment including "Trouble Shooting" on-site
  • Practical Exercises
  • Driving Test
  • Practical Examination
