ITIA Tyre Safety Day 7 October 2024

Don’t wait  - check your tyres today

  • In advance of Tyre Safety Day, Monday 7 October Irish Tyre Industry Association urges drivers to check tyres
  • ITIA dealers are offering free tyre checks (7th – 12th Oct) nationwide up to and including  Irish Road Safety Week
  • 120,000 tyres have failed NCT in the first six months of 2024

Irish Tyre Industry Association (ITIA), An Garda Síochána and RSA will team up for Tyre Safety Day on Monday, 7 October, during Irish Road Safety Week, to encourage drivers to check the tyres regularly.

As part of this, ITIA are offering free tyre safety checks. From now until Saturday 12 October, drivers can visit any ITIA dealer nationwide for a free tyre safety check, including a pressure check and tread depth inspection.

Defective tyres can be a contributing factor in fatal or serious road collisions. Based on the analysis of road collision reports, the RSA estimates that defective tyres could be a contributory factor in as many as 14 deaths each year.

Sue O’Neill, CEO of the ITIA, says: “Tyres are the only part of your vehicle in contact with the road and their importance is often overlooked. If your tyres show signs of deterioration, you should have them replaced immediately With 120,000 tyres already failing NCT in the first six months of this year, it’s evident that drivers are not in the habit of regularly checking their tyres. ITIA members are experts in tyre health and road worthiness. Paying a visit to your nearest ITIA registered dealer can give drivers peace of mind that their vehicle is safe on the road. They will check that your tyres are properly inflated, check the tread depth and confirm they are free from cracks, tears or bulges. Our website itia.ie lists all experts nationwide so I would urge drivers to check their nearest outlet here.”
