Bookville Festival 2018 Kilkenny

Bookville Festival Kilkenny is delighted to announce its return for the second year! The 2018 festival will take place from the 9th to the 16th of October. It is promising to be bigger and better than last year and the events are FREE!


This year, 30 participants including authors, storytellers, yoga teachers, musicians, illustrators and artists will showcase events for families and children from 0 -12yrs throughout the county. This is happening due to the combined forces of Kilkenny Library Service with Kilkenny Arts Office. The festival team are delighted that so many creative figures have got on board once again to become part of this fun filled festival. Bookville also has a specialised school programme throughout Kilkenny and county. Its aim is to have long lasting educational, social and cultural benefits for young people.

The venues include library branches in Callan, Castlecomer, Ferrybank, Graiguenamanagh, Thomastown, Urlingford, Loughboy, City Library, the Arts Office in Dean Street and the Parade Tower.

Some of the headlining authors and artists include Shane Hegarty (Darkmouth fantasy series), Sarah Webb (Blazing Trail and A Sailor went to Sea), Alan Nolan (Fintan's Fifteen series) and Peter Donnelly (The President's Glasses). There is "Messy Play" with Eilis O Toole where babies and toddlers learn about their world through sensory play. "Yoga Storytelling" with Nicola Foxe. Joint author Sadhbh Devlin and illustrator Tarsila Kruse will have a fun filled workshop based on their picture book "Bi ag Spraoi Liom! Plus lots lots lots more!

The Kilkenny Arts Officer, Mary Butler says that "Bookville Festival is a unique opportunity for children and families to attend exciting and energetic events across the county. All events are full of fun and creativity".

County Librarian, Josephine Coyne adds "We are delighted to be bringing these fantastic artists to Kilkenny, and hope to fuel the imagination and inspire children of all ages with our wide range of events".

Booking is essential for events. Booking opens from Tuesday September 18th. Contact your local library for Library events, Kilkenny Arts Office for Arts Office events. Bookings for the Parade Tower are also through the Arts Office.
