Freedom of the City of Kilkenny to be conferred on Mr. Eddie Keher

The Elected Members of the Municipal District of Kilkenny City have unanimously agreed to confer the Freedom of Kilkenny City on Mr. Eddie Keher, Inistioge, Co. Kilkenny. In proposing Mr. Keher for the honour, the Mayor of the Municipal District of Kilkenny City, Cllr. Michael Doyle outlined the following accolades and achievements of Eddie Keher:

- Played inter-county hurling from 1959 to 1977 Scoring 35 goals and 336 points in Championship games.
- 6 All Ireland Hurling medals, 10 Leinster Hurling medals, 3 National League Titles, 5 All Stars Awards, 9 Railway Cup Medals.
- Founder member of the Kilkenny No-Name Club.
- Involved with Scór Traditional Irish Music program within the GAA.
- Played three years minor hurling with Kilkenny, including minor and senior hurling for Kilkenny in the same year.
- Won a senior club championship medal in 1967 with Rower-Inistioge.
- Captained U14 County Winning Team at the age of 9.
- Scored 2-11 in 1971 All Ireland final which Kilkenny lost.
- Scored 14 points in 1963 All Ireland win.
- Joint managed Kilkenny to All Ireland victory in 1979.
- Was named on Team of the Century and Team of the Millennium.
- In 2005 Eddie Keher was inducted into Irish Independent/Jury's Ballsbridge Hotel Hall of Fame.
- In 2006 Eddie Keher received honorary doctorate of science from University of Limerick.
- In 2017, Eddie Keher received a life time achievement award from the Gaelic Players Association.

Mr. Keher has very graciously agreed to accept the honour of Freedom of the City of Kilkenny. A conferring ceremony will be held in early 2018.
