Kilkenny Central Access Scheme Phase 1 - Bridge Construction
Kilkenny Central Access Scheme Phase 2 - Road Construction
- Contractors: John Cradock Limited / Fox Contracts Limited
Date: August 31st 2016
Following themost recent update to residents in March 2016 I am now in a position to confirm that all works associated with the KCAS Bridge (Phase 1), aside from some minor snag items, are complete.
In parallel, the Peace Park, recently reinstated, will reopen on Tuesday 6th September, 2016 at 9a.m.
In the coming four to fiveweeks extensive works will be undertaken in the area of Wolfe Tone Street, Michael Street and Greensbridge Street to provide for revised and upgraded services and to enable the integration of these streets with the new Scheme. Additionally revisions are required to the New Road Roundabout to integrate the roundabout with the altered approach road.
It is acknowledged that these works will give rise to temporary disruption and inconvenience and the Council apologises in advance for this inconvenience. Every effort will be made to minimise the level of disruption.
In the period since the last update a reasonably significant archaeological site was uncovered in the area of the Auxiliary Hospital. Resolution of the archaeological remains was undertaken under licence agreement with the Department of Arts, Heritage and An Gaeltacht. Some of the archaeological findings uncovered, including 13th century Bordeaux wine vessels, will be displayed in the new City Museum at St. Mary's Hall.
The archaeological finds have given rise to some delays to the Programme and the Scheme is now likely to open in January or February 2017.
A further notice to Residents will issue in late 2016. In the interim, if you have a query, please do not hesitate to contact me at the phone number or e-mail address below.
Signed: Michael Murphy, Senior Resident Engineer, Kilkenny County Council
