Looking for something exciting, free and open to all children this Summer?

Why not join Kilkenny Library and take part in our 2019 Summer Reading Challenge!

The Summer Stars Reading Challenge will run from June 15th until August 31st in all of our libraries in Kilkenny. Children are invited to register from this Saturday, 15th June at your local branch, and are will be given a reading card to record and track their own progress. The challenge is to read 8 or more books over the summer. There will be rewards and incentives along the way with Cinema vouchers at the end for all participants!!

"We are delighted invite all children to explore books and enjoy reading for fun this summer" comments County Librarian, Josephine Coyne. "As membership is now free for everyone, we encourage parents take the time to sign children up, starting their child on a lifelong journey which opens a world of possibilities".

Every year has seen an increase in the amount of children completing this challenge and last year was no different with 1,263 children receiving a certificate of completion.
International research has shown that reading ability can fall behind during the summer and that these reading challenges help strengthen literacy skills. When children read during the summer, it helps them build reading skills and prevent summer learning loss.
