Age Friendly Car Parking Spaces

10 Age Friendly Car Parking Spaces Provided in Kilkenny

Following consultation with the Older Persons Council 10 number Age Friendly Car Parking have been provided in 3 locations around town.

In St Marys we identified 4 spaces located along the back wall (presentation primary school) which are wider than normal spaces - would be easier for older people to park in . Also they are located close to the pay station. As the wall is there the signs can be placed where they will not cause a visual clutter.

St Marys Carpark

We have provided two spaces in the Black Abbey Car Park (across from the Church)

Black Abbey Car Park

And 4 spaces in St Canices Car Park, adjacent to the disabled spaces and close to the ramp and back access into the church. There is a wall and railings where the signs could go therefore there would not be an issue of visual clutter.

All of the spaces are pay and display so they are not free. They are all really busy parking areas so we are hoping that if the spaces are designated that people will leave them free for older people. So that when the car park is full the older person will still be able to avail of the designated space close to the city centre and adjoining churches.

The idea is that they will not be policed but be similar to the mothers and babies Car parking spaces in supermarkets we will be hoping that people will do the right thing and not park in them if they do not consider themselves old.
