Community Support Centres - Expressions of Interest

Kilkenny County Council is inviting Expressions of Interest from community centres, sports facilities, and other suitable local venues to be considered as designated Community Support Centres.

These centres will play a key role in supporting communities during emergencies such as severe weather events, power outages, or other disruptions, by providing a safe space where people can access basic services and information.

The Council recognises the vital role that community organisations and volunteers play in supporting local resilience and is seeking to work in partnership with centres that are well positioned to support their local area when needed.

As part of this initiative, designated Community Support Centres will be supported by the Local Authority through the provision of transportable generators, which can be deployed where mains power is unavailable, ensuring continuity of essential services. In addition, funding has been secured nationally for the installation of changeover switches in designated centres, allowing generators to be safely connected to buildings.

Community centres with suitable facilities and an active volunteer base are encouraged to submit an Expression of Interest. The application form is available in the link below or by contacting the Community Department at community@kilkennycoco.ie or by telephone on (056) 7794920. Successful centres will form part of a coordinated local response, working alongside the Local Authority and relevant agencies.
