The countdown is on for “Lets Team Up to Clean Up, Together for Kilkenny”. The army personnel from St Stephens’ barracks have the litter picking kits assembled and participating groups have been invited to attend a health and safety information briefing. One person from the participating group must attend a 20-minute information session as it provides details on how to keep volunteers safe while litter picking and will explain the logistics of how the initiative will work, the morning of Kilkenny Day on the 9th of October.
Registration for the environmental action day is closing early next week. If your residence association, sports club or school is based in Kilkenny City, register today via https://cleanup.kilkenny.ie/. Health and safety information sessions are taking place next Tuesday evening and next Wednesday at lunchtime. All groups registered are required to attend as they will then be eligible to collect their litter picking kit. The kit provides litter pickers, hi vis vests, gloves and bags. The kit also includes 120 flowering bulbs, which are pollinator friendly and will increase floral displays across the city next spring.
“Let’s Team Up to Clean Up, Together for Kilkenny” will see over 60 groups litter picking their neighbourhoods on the morning of Kilkenny Day, the 9th of October. Groups are invited to be active between 10.30am-12.30pm on Sunday the 9th of October. Participating schools have been offered litter picking kits so they can contribute to the initiative during their school day, the week leading up to Kilkenny Day. This initiative is a great opportunity for schools, clubs and resident associations to ensure their neighbourhood is litter free as winter approaches. The litter pack is a fantastic offering and their provision was made possible by the financial support of the corporate sponsors PRL, Dawn Meats, John O Shea Trust and Glanbia PLC/Glanbia Co-op together with the waste management sponsor Panda.
