Pictured performing the sod turning ceremony to mark the commencement of construction of Ferrybank Neighbourhood Park are Minister of State for Local Government and Electoral Reform, Mr. John Paul Phelan TD, and, Cathaoirleach of Kilkenny County Council, Councillor Peter Cleere. Also in attendance are elected members of Piltown Municipal District, Councillor Tomas Breathnach, Councillor Eamon Aylward, Councillor Ger Frisby, and Councillor Pat Dunphy, staff of Kilkenny County Council and Waterford City and County Council, project contractor Tom Beckett, and representatives of community organisations in the Ferrybank area.

The park is being jointly funded by the Department of Housing, Planning, and Local Government (50%), Kilkenny County Council (25%), and Waterford City and County Council (25%). The project represents a practical manifestation of the two Local Authorities in the area working together for the benefit of Ferrybank, and the wider Waterford City area.

The construction of the park will create a much needed central amenity facility for Ferrybank, incorporating a children's playground, walking route, teenager meeting point, and playing pitch.

Minister John Paul Phelan TD expressed his satisfaction at the commencement of construction of the Park, and noted in particular the many benefits this amenity facility will bring to the local population.
