A preliminary study was undertaken in 2025 to explore the feasibility of the establishment of an Enterprise and Innovation hub in Kilkenny city, which could provide landing space, programming and networking facilities for start-ups and established businesses in Kilkenny and the wider region.

This study – conducted by a suitably qualified consultant - was possible due to Kilkenny County Council’s successful application for funding under Stream 4 of the Smart Regions Enterprise Innovation Scheme in late 2024.

Further investigative analysis in relation to this potential hub initiative is expected in late 2025/2026.

The Smart Regions Scheme is delivered by Enterprise Ireland as an Intermediary Body under two European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Regional Programmes – the Southern, Eastern and Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027 and the Northern and Western Regional Programme 2021-2027.

The Kilkenny City Enterprise and Innovation Hub Feasibility Project was co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the ERDF Southern, Eastern & Midland Regional Programme 2021-2027.
