Publication of the Draft National Planning Framework - Sept. 2017

The Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, on behalf of the Government, has prepared a draft National Planning Framework called Ireland 2040 Our Plan.

Earlier this year, Government consulted with people across Ireland through a national campaign asking for views and opinions about making a plan for Ireland. Thousands of submissions were received, reviewed and considered before a draft plan was drawn up.

A draft of Ireland 2040 - Our Plan is now available, together with a number of environmental reports (including a Strategic Environmental Assessment Environmental Report) and other supporting information here.

It is vital for Kilkenny that the public takes part and makes submissions to ensure that the issues for Kilkenny are addressed in the plan.

All interested parties are encouraged to make a submission to the draft National Planning Framework.

Make a Submission

Written submissions can be made between Wednesday 27th September and 12 noon on Friday 10th November by:

Notice of Extension of Closing date for Submissions

The National Planning Framework will set out the Government's response to national challenges of accommodating around 1 million extra people and more than 500,000 additional people at work.

Kilkenny County Council intends to make a submission to the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government in connection with the preparation of the NPF, and also wants to encourage the public to make submissions.

The plan will shape the future of Kilkenny by 2040 and will also deal with administrative issues and between county and regional boundaries. This is the new National Planning Framework and it is vital for Kilkenny that the public takes part and makes submissions to ensure that the issues for Kilkenny are addressed in the plan.

The original closing date for submissions of the 16th March has now been extended to the 31st March. If you intend making a submission after the 16th March, you are requested to email npf@housing.gov.ie on or before the 16th March indicating that you intend to make a submission after the 16th March and before the new closing date for receipt of submissions of 12 noon on Friday 31st March.

Invitation to Public Information Evening

You are invited to a public information evening on "Ireland 2040 Our Plan the National Planning Framework."
This new National Planning Framework will shape Ireland's development to 2040 and beyond. It is essential that people get involved and that the views of the South East and Kilkenny are expressed in the public consultation process now underway.

This evening has been arranged by Kilkenny County Council to provide people with information on the content of the Government's "Ireland 2040 Our Plan Issues and Choices" paper published in February 2017. A panel of local speakers will give an overview of the National Planning Framework process and facilitate a discussion to encourage people to make submissions as part of that process.

You are encouraged to take part in this consultation process which will be an important step in making the views of Kilkenny people heard in the National Planning Framework. It is also an opportunity to reinforce the importance of our county boundary into the future.
