The Not Around Us Campaign is a prevention campaign for smoking and vaping that is led by young people.
What is ‘Not Around Us’?
The Not Around Us Campaign is a prevention campaign for smoking and vaping that is led by young people. The Campaign is an ask from young people to consider your activity in outdoor spaces, used by children and young people, so that young people can experience smoke and vape free spaces and environments. The aim of the campaign is to de-normalise smoking and vaping around children and young people. “Not Around Us” is another step towards a Tobacco & Vape Free Carlow and Kilkenny.

How can I get involved?
Are you a community, voluntary organisation, school, childcare facility or sports club? If yes, you can sign up to be a Not Around Us Supporter. Here are the simple steps to take before you register and pledge to the campaign.
1. Consult with the young people who use the facility/service to discuss the ‘Not Around Us campaign and to determine if the ‘Not Around Us’ message is something they would like your organisation to adopt. Kilkenny County Council have a consultation toolkit to help you with this, suitable for all age groups. (7-18 years)
2. If the young people are in agreement with your organisation supporting the campaign, then you should review your own policies to ensure they include the key aims of the campaign – “helping to protect children and young people from second-hand smoke exposure & contributing to the de-normalisation of smoking for children and young people.
3. Before sign up you should also discuss and agree within your organisation that you are committing to supporting and promoting the ‘Not Around Us’ activity to your own stakeholders and within your organisation. Upon completion of these steps, register and sign the campaign pledge. You will then receive a Not Around Us Supporter Pack which included a Supporter Charter, Window Stickers and Outdoor Signage
