The Elected Council

The Council through its Monthly Council meetings report, explains & is answerable for the decisions it makes in the interests of the community. It is possible to be able to follow and understand the decision-making process of Council where information is provided in advance to elected members, where meetings to consider, discuss and decide on matters are held in public, the considerations of elected members including legislative considerations are visible, where the minutes of Council meetings are maintained and made available when approved. In addition members of the public may attend Council meetings & Municipal District Meetings .

The Council in making decisions will follow the rule of law. This means that decisions are consistent with relevant legislation or common law and are within the powers of Council.

The Council utilises the statutory and formal processes to facilitate community participation in relation to its plans, policies & proposals. The Council actively engages in additional means to enable the public to inspect and comment on its proposals through information evenings, extended consultation processes, enabled consultation processes such as the Older Peoples forum and Comhairle na nOg.

Elected Members are entitled to a range of salary & expenses payments in respect of their duties. The entitlement arises from the provisions of the Local Government Acts 2001-2014, Regulations made and the details are outlined in Department Circulars, LG12/14, LG16/14LG 5/15, LG04/2018LG04/2018 appendix,LG04/2019LG03/2020 LG03/2021
