Playing Pitches

Playing pitches are provided at a number of locations in Co. Kilkenny for use by local sports clubs, community organisations and individuals. Sports clubs can apply for use of these playing pitches for the playing season (September to May) by means of an annual pitch letting licence. Applications for use of these pitches by sports clubs are invited in June of each year and further information on this scheme can be obtained by contacting the Parks Department. Pitches are available to members of the public when not in use by a sports club under the pitch letting scheme.

The pitches are closed to sports clubs between June and August annually to allow for a comprehensive maintenance programme including drainage works, topdressing, over seeding and returfing of bare areas.

The pitches available for letting to clubs on an annual basis are located at:

  • Garringreen Neighbourhood Park
  • Newpark Marsh Park
  • Larchfield Neighbourhood Park
  • Millennium Court
  • Waterbarrack

Dressing rooms are provided for use at Newpark Marsh Park by users of the playing pitch and the adjoining Multi Use Games Area. Anyone wishing to avail of the dressing rooms should contact the Parks Department for further information.

Additional soccer pitches are provided at the Fair Green, Callan and Bishop Birch Place, Hebron Road. These pitches are not available to sports clubs under the annual pitch letting scheme but are available for use by community organisations and individuals.
