Sale to a Private Owner

RF200 Form is required for vehicles registered before 1993 or for new or imported vehicles that have not been taxed before. - Download Change of Owner Application Form 

and the seller should submit this form, along with the brown Registration Book (logbook) to their local Motor Taxation Office, which will process the change of ownership and forward the registration book to the new owner.

For vehicles registered after 01/01/1993, BOTH the Seller and the Buyer must complete the back of the Vehicle's Registration Certificate (RF101) and then the seller should post the Certificate to: Department of Transport, Shannon, Co. Clare which will process the change of ownership and forward a new certificate to the new owner.

 

SALE TO A MOTOR DEALER

For vehicles registered before 01/01/1993, complete form RF200 -

with the garage, ensuring the Garage Code is input where indicated on the form. Give the brown Registration Book (logbook) to the garage and the seller should then send the completed form RF200 to the Motor Tax Office, which will process the change of ownership to the motor dealer.

For vehicles registered on or after 01/01/93, complete form RF105 -

with the garage, ensuring the Garage Code is input where indicated on the form, give the Vehicle's Registration Certificate (RF101) to the garage and the seller should then post the completed RF105 form to: Department of Transport, Shannon, Co. Clare which will process the change of ownership to the motor dealer:

Please note that if the Motor Dealer to whom the vehicle is being sold, DOES NOT HAVE A GARAGE CODE, the procedure for "Sale to a Private Owner" above must be followed.

The seller must have the correct Registration Certificate or Registration book, showing the seller as the registered owner, at the time of sale. If not, the seller must get a replacement of this document before the sale of the vehicle by completing form RF134Download Replacement Documents Application Form 

and submitting it with fee of €12 to their local Motor Tax Office.
